Developing a Data and Information Management Plan

Supply of data and information to COWRIE as part of the lease requirements will be facilitated by a data audit and inventory associated with each development project. Supplying the DIMP to COWRIE will help us in establishing communication and understanding of the data submission requirements.

COWRIE have developed a data and information management plan, which sets out the process for collating, managing and making accessible the data from each Round II development. Development of a DIMP will also help developer contractors understand the obligations that the Developer is under and allow effective cross compliance with the data submission requirements. Distributing metadata and data submission (to contractors and throughout the life of the project) is a cost effective way of meeting these needs.

Developers are encouraged to create their own internal Data and Information Management Plans. A template is available.

The DIMP does not replace the requirement for individual survey metadata, which may record some details that are specific to a particular data source or survey.

It is recommended that metadata is generated as the audit/inventory is undertaken. Remember that records collected within the development of the consents application may have been undertaken by contractors. It will be necessary to extend the audit to your contractors and to ensure that metadata and the data and information generated are also submitted to COWRIE.

An example Data and Information Management Plan is provided to help you record your data management procedures. Such a document can form the basis of a specification for consultants and survey teams to match to the required data and metadata standards, as well as providing information to COWRIE on the anticipated collaboration on provision of data.
