Submitting metadata
Metadata is required for all data and information submitted to the COWRIE data archive. Some developers hold metadata, especially that which is associated with geospatial information which is stored in the spatial catalogues (e.g. ESRI ArcCatalog). These existing systems will have adopted a particular metadata standard (such as FGDC). The records are partly automated and part manually entered and the records will only be complete is that manual entry is also complete. Online metadata entryIf you have not collected metadata within the scope of the exploration, operation and monitoring you will need to do so in order to submit this to COWRIE. We have created an online submission tool that complies with a range of metadata standards. You can use this system to add metadata records as you undertake your data and information inventory/audit. (see Data and Information Management Plans). The metadata entry tool can be used to edit existing metadata records and entry is controlled through a registration and login procedure. As a Developer you will need to nominate registered users who have rights to edit metadata. Online submission of existing metadataIf you have existing metadata records COWRIE is not expecting you to recreate these to a new metadata standard. You can submit your existing metadata records online. Metadata moderationAny metadata submitted as part of the COWRIE lease conditions will be moderated by GeoData. Moderation will generate a report of compliance with the metadata standard. We will help you meet these standards by providing advice and examples of compliant records. COWRIE will notify you of records where there is missing data that is needed, and the online metadata submission forms will allow you to add these records interactively. When should metadata be submitted?Metadata can be submitted at any time. It is anticipated that this will be submitted prior to the submission of the consent application. If further assistance is needed contact the Data Officer. |
